What causes dry hair? Can this lead to damage? How can I fix it? All great questions. Let’s dive into some answers.

There are many different reasons your hair could be dry. A very common reason is heat. If you’re using heat with no heat protectant (or on a very high heat), then you more than likely have dry ends. Another reason is your shampoo routine. I have a blog focused on how to shampoo correctly that goes more into depth with how shampoo can dry your hair out. Also, the type of shampoo or products you’re using, or how you‘re using them, could possibly effect how dry your hair is. The climate/weather effects your hair. Chemicals, hi-lites, and color can dry your hair. And lastly, your hormones can effect how dry your hair is.

How can I fix my dry hair? Simple. What our hair lacks when its dry is moisture. Therefore, we have to apply that moisture back into the hair. Our scalp creates its own moisture, so when we are adding moisture into the hair, we don’t want to add it to the scalp. (in most circumstances) This could lead to having an oily scalp. Instead, we want to add moisture to just the mids and ends of our hair. Weather it’s conditioner, a hair oil, leave-in conditioner, or some kind of hair emollient. What kind you use is going to depend on your hair texture! Ask your stylist what they suggest for best results! Also, if your hormones are what’s causing your dryness, breakage, etc., this may not work, and you may want to reach out to a physician.

As always, everyone’s hair is different. It’s always best to ask your personal stylist their opinion!

If possible, shampooing less often (maybe every 2-3 days on average), shampooing correctly, using products correctly, adding moisture, and watching your heat use will definitely help maintain the dryness in your hair! Maintaining this dryness will lead you to healthier, silkier, softer hair!

There we have it. Short and sweet! As always, feel free to reach out with any questions!
